If you didn’t catch the news earlier this week, we’re now the proud owners of an 1,100 pound, 112 year-old hulking cast iron machine – a Golding Pearl No. 14 press, to be specific…and we are excited about it!

The Golding Pearl No. 14 all loaded on to the flatbed towing truck in Washington, Iowa, ready to make the move to Marion
On Tuesday afternoon, my sweet dad (who, from now on, may have to be known as a press monkey) went down to Washington, Iowa to pick up this beauty that I had arranged to buy from a distance.
Like I said, Brooklyn’s great, but not exactly the most economically friendly place in the world…and letterpress equipment is always at a premium here. So, I relied on my roots and jumped on an ad I saw on Briarpress for this press over the weekend.

“Re-Run” (no kidding) unloading the press from the flatbed in to Dad’s shop, behind the gallery

Close-up of the press, looking up from underneath…that’s a pretty beautiful piece of machinery!

It was obviously a bright, sunshine-y day, but this gives you a good shot of almost the whole press

And, there she is, just waiting in Dad’s shop, for whenever we make the next big leap to some more space and can get everything all set up and running.
It’s a little too nice to have someone so willing to go to such great (and heavy!) lengths to help us get the things we need! The press will wait for us in Iowa for a while, but it’s awfully exciting to add to the collection of equipment and get ready for the next steps in growing this little business of ours.

The perfect Baby to leave with Grandma and Grandpa … and you won’t have to send it to college.
Oh my! How exciting (and maybe a little intimidating?)
