It’s H-O-T. Summer finally caught up with New York City and it is finally sunny, humid, and, well, August.
Though our main goals throughout the day seem to involve coolness and hydration, I’m also managing to get a fair amount of work done, including getting closer and closer to having samples ready of the brand new collection of invitations I’m working on! I’ve refined the designs and will be printing samples starting next week. I’m not sure exactly how fast it’ll all go, but I anticipate having some great things to show off around the beginning of September…so stay tuned!
In other, non-paper-related events, we went over to the newly opened High Line park in Manhattan on Saturday and I couldn’t help but think of some plans my parents have for their own Marion, Iowa. The High Line is a very Manhattan, very manicured, very packed-with-people park/trail along the elevated train lines on the far west side of Manhattan that are no longer in use. My parents have a vision for an entrance to Marion with a similar visual impact – only scaled to and designed for that particular space, not the westside of Manhattan.

The current (oh-so-glamorous) entrance to Marion and, on the right, how my mom & dad envision it.
It’s always inspiring to see visualizations of ideas and makes things that much more real. It’s something I was definitely taught by these idea-growers, and something that continues to help me in my own work.

Speaking of my own work…the first few new chiyogami-covered accordion photo albums are up on Etsy – enjoy! There are plenty more to come, since I seem to be making them just as fast as you all seem to be buying them!
