Today I’m heading to The Arm in Williamsburg to work on some letterpress projects, including thank you cards, some monogrammed notecards and holiday cards for us to send out. Letterpress is a relatively new addition to my paper-obsessed repertoire, although a pretty natural extension of my other interests. I’ve done a large amount of printmaking, in addition to all my bookbinding over the last 10 years or so, and letterpress is offering great opportunities for me to not only do freestanding printing projects, but to incorporate printed text into my book work.
I’ve also already had a lot of interest from friends and family in doing letterpress invitations for baby showers, weddings, etc., which should be a nice way to sustain my habit!
I’m sure I’ll hit a point soon where I’ll be after my own press (even a tabletop press is a bit of a nightmarish thought in this apartment), but for now I’m really happy to have an available facility in which to print and hopefully these projects will come out looking as good as they look in my mind’s eye. …more soon!
